Marokko is een Islamitisch land waar het Islamitisch recht wordt gevolgd.
Het is als toerist goed om je bewust te zijn van de daarmee gepaard gaande cultuur. Gevoeligheden zoals bloot gekleed gaan of seksualiteit zijn hier voorbeelden van. Tijdens de Ramadan of bij religieuze plekken wordt het op prijs gesteld als je schouders/benen bedekt, en ga bijvoorbeeld ook niet openlijk staan knuffelen. Hou rekening met de normen en waarden die in Marokko als normaal beschouwd worden en ga daarin mee.
Alcohol
There's nothing better than having a drink on a lovely terrace on holiday. Morocco is extremely free with regard to tourism. Alcohol is served in hotels, bars and tourist areas. But certainly not in every riad! If you would like alcohol, it is often possible to indicate this in advance at the riad, or go to the tourist restaurants, where it is usually available.
Gebed in het dagelijks leven
Prayer times are also observed in tourist areas. This means that shops may be closed during prayers. Especially in the souks you often see that a curtain is hung in front of the shop when it is time to pray. You will also hear prayers from the mosque several times a day. Respect and participate in the local customs, it is beautiful and special to experience what life in Morocco is like!
Crime
In Morocco mainly petty crime occurs. As a tourist you run the risk of being mugged or robbed. Of course you use common sense. So don't walk in the alleys in the dark with all your jewelry on, or take as little as possible with you (even during the day) and consult official guides and authorities if you have any questions. Then generally speaking, little goes wrong.

Een veel gestelde vraag is of het veilig is om als vrouw alleen in Marokko te reizen. Het antwoord is volmondig ja, mits je bovenstaand in acht neemt. Het komt voor dat je het gevoel hebt te worden lastiggevallen, een duidelijke nee volstaat (La!).
Although it will be quiet, Ramadan is a wonderful time to travel in Morocco. It happens that you are invited for iftar (the meal after sunset during Ramadan). Very nice and the population is open to sharing with you. But keep in mind that many are closed during the day.
