Vervoer

Although not every airline flies to and from Morocco, there are many options depending on your destination. Traveling by car is an experience in itself, about which we can tell you all. Once you're there, there are several options for getting around. We have listed it for you, so you can choose what you feel most comfortable with!

Transport to Morocco

To fly

There are several options for traveling to Morocco. By plane it takes about 3.5 to 4 hours to Marrakech, a manageable time, especially with children! Assuming you want to fly from Schiphol, Rotterdam or Eindhoven Airport , TUI , Transavia and EasyJet are the companies that will take you to Morocco most cheaply. It can be cheaper, but then you move to Brussels or Weeze, and you can also fly with other companies to other airports. The choice is huge, but it doesn't get any cheaper.

Airports

Tanger-Boukhalef (TNG, Marokko)

Casablanca (CMN, Marokko)

Marrakech-Menara (RAK, Marokko)

Fez (FEZ, Marokko)

Essaouira Mogador Airport (ESU, Marokko)

The best time

Hack

  • Tickets are cheaper on Tuesday night, Wednesday and Saturday night

  • Do not book on weekends

  • Use incognito mode and delete cookies

  • Use a VPN in a cheap country

  • Use Google flights and select your airport

  • You're welcome!

By car

If you have longer time for your holiday to Morocco, traveling by car is a very nice experience. Because it is more than 3000 km to Marrakech from Utrecht, you can divide the journey into 3 stops, for example. Our route is usually southern France - the east side of Spain - Casablanca - Marrakech, which is for us because family and friends live there. And then cross by boat from Tarifa to Tangier (reservations are useful, you can do this here via Direct Ferries, very handy!) On the return journey we often take the west side of Spain, because the environment is so different and we end up in nice places . Read the blog for nice accommodation tips!

Transport in Morocco

And then you get off the plane and suddenly find yourself in a huge busy hall, what now? Moroccan customs officers can seem a bit fierce, but are very helpful. Especially with small children, it is sometimes possible to take a short cut so that you can get through customs faster. Lately, Morocco, and especially Marrakech, has been very busy at customs. Tip! Make sure you find a toilet on the way from the plane to customs. There is nothing more inconvenient than being in dire need in a long line. Also for your children! But other than that, don't worry and wait patiently for your turn. And then the adventure can begin!

Once in Morocco it is easy to get around with various vehicles. Now you are probably thinking of a car or taxi, but you can also go to the tourist spots (Marrakech) by horse and carriage. Make sure you look carefully at the welfare of the animals, some horses are treated poorly.

Transfer

Before you even realize at the airport that you have to come to the city, you can book your transfer in advance in the Netherlands, either via your Riad or hotel, or via this link, for example , if you are in Marrakech. For transfers in other cities, see good options here: check!

Cab

Most riads or hotels offer a service from the airport, or you can arrange the transfer via the links above. If you haven't booked anything yet, it is also possible to take a taxi. Taxis in Morocco are required to run on the meter, but they will not always do so. You can agree on a price, but know that the prices are very different than in the Netherlands. What we Dutch think is very little, is a huge amount for a taxi in Morocco. Do what feels right, but definitely don't charge Dutch prices. Every city has a different color taxi, and different taxis drive from the airports than in the city itself. So the most important thing is, in the city, let them turn on the meter! There are no reliable apps like Uber or the like in Morocco.

Car

Train

The train connections in Morocco are very modern. The stations between the major cities are modern and very easy to reach. Do you want to visit the cities but would rather not drive? Then this is a great alternative. And the trip is always manageable in terms of time, which is also nice if you are with children. Relax! You can book cheap tickets via this link ! A complete tour can also be done by train. You will find it here!

Bicycle

The bicycle is also a useful means of transport in Morocco. Nowadays you can easily get around in the cities on a bicycle, provided you pay attention. There are many rental companies and tours that you can book to explore the city by bike. You can book various fun bike tours in Marrakech, for example here   or this local one, who likes to provide local employment. And if you really want to go for a great cycling tour, look at this one , where you go into the Atlas Mountains, MTB at its best!
